Ball and Boe Fans Turn Out for Together Again at HMV

When it was announced that Alfie Boe and Michael Ball would attempt a world record for the most amount of album signings in 24 hours, it’s safe to say that fans were very excited.  Beginning in Blackpool before moving onto Manchester, Sheffield, Nottingham and finishing up in London’s Oxford Street, fans were busy sharing and tweeting #TogetherAgainToday as the duo went from city to city.  Fans from as far afield as USA, Japan and Australia were able to join in the fun as well as those lucky 610 fans who got their albums signed by Alfie and Michael.

To break the record, previously held by Westlife, Alfie and Michael had to be physically present to sign albums in five different locations, so when the boys arrived (on bikes!) at HMV Oxford Street just before 8pm, there was already a party atmosphere in place, also helped by the presence of Strictly Come Dancing stars, Neil and Katya Jones.  Fans who had queued for a long time (longest I found was three hours) all said it was worth it to get a few words with Alfie and Michael and to get their albums signed in person.

I was there with two fabulous friends (both of whom I met through Alfie), Linda and Cecelia, and together we spoke to several fans about the album and their experience of the signing (excuse the sound, it was really loud in there):

Many thanks to Ash, Abbie and Daga at Decca for editing the video to include Yvonne, Sue, Hayley, Vicky And Florence, Emily and Amy, Gina and Gaye, Tracey, Philip and Marilyn, Holly, Lesley, Joolz and Tienne and Georgie.  There were also contributions from Rachael, Donna, Tricia and Sarah:

It was wonderful to be among so many like minded fellow fans and to talk about Alfie and Michael Together Again and of course any opportunity to see Alfie is always welcome!

The consensus amongst fans, including those who didn’t want to be filmed, was that the most popular songs on the album are He Lives In You and The Rose although other songs with honourable mentions were The Prayer, Bring Me Sunshine, You’re The Voice, Kismet medley, New York, New York, West Side Story medley and You’ll Be Back.  In fact, there weren’t many songs that didn’t get a mention at all – next time, I’m not leaving until the entire track list gets a mention!

Now I don’t know about you, but I’m relishing the prospect of hearing You’re The Voice on the forthcoming tour – and if they don’t Bring Me Sunshine then I’ll darn well feel cheated!  I’d love to hear what you would all like to hear on the tour – leave a comment below!

What a fun time on Oxford St! And what fun helping you — and getting to talk to excited fan for your interview! Just loved all the enthusiasm. As for me, I’m probably going to be choosing a different song than most people. Of course the power ballads are glorious, hearing that voice soar heavenwards is breathtaking, but I love those songs that are just that little bit different. I loved Hero, one of Alfie’s choices, and Bring Me Sunshine puts a smile on my face every timeI hear it. But the song that I’ve gone back to time and again is I’ll Be Back. Maybe in part because I’ve been listening to the Hamilton soundtrack recently in preparation for it’s arrival in the UK, but mainly because it’s just such a clever song. This surprising entry has me tapping my feet every time. Just love it, and I thought it set up a great entry for the boys on the TV show — even if they did have to change one line that little bit to make it work!

I’m loving listening to the album. Lots of songs I didn’t know that are old friends already. I’d have to write something on every track to say what I like! So picking a few: Not while I’m around, I’ll be back and Anastasia are stand out big surprises. Bit emotional on the last two as the words and sentiments seem like it’s their ‘parting is such sweet sorrow’ songs – going to be a few tears in the O2 when they sing these at the final date. I love Beauty and the Beast and can Alfie’s voice get any deeper opening that with Evermore. Adore West Side Story medley. I’m not leaving out the others- looking forward to any kind of singalong they throw at us. Make sure they shout On your feet loud and often – it’s really hard to stand up in Arenas without being prodded in the back to sit down. It they tell us to then hey what can they do and the flashlight is on my phone. Here is my special two! He lives in you – never seen Lion King so this is new to me and it’s so infectious I love it. The other is The Prayer! That’s an exclamation mark! I’ve never heard a version of this I’ve liked even when it was the “fountain tune” in Las Vegas. Alfie and Michael give this a whole new sincerity and meaning and the vocals well just incredible and stunningly beautiful – can’t listen to that without flipping back for a second play. Huge thumbs up from me and looking forward to the tour. *****

Love the CD, played it everyday! I live in a 55+ retirement complex & over the past few days I’ve lost count of the number of times residents have said ‘Alfie & Michael got a new CD out then Gill!! No I’m not playing it overly loud, although in admit volume a fraction higher than normal. No I’ve not been seen outside my flat as much & when I have been I’ve apparently had my stupid grin on my face they have all come to associate with an Alfie happening! I really love He Lives In You, but then Lion King is my favourite musical next to Les Mis of course, The Prayer & Hero which I’d never heard before. Only got 3 concerts this time around but so looking forward to them and catching up with as many people as I can.

Thanks for sharing this great to hear. I would have loved to have been at Oxford Street but unfortunately I couldn’t be there. However I have bought 5 CD’s. Hopefully after getting the New World Record they will get the No.1 and Xmas No. 1 as well as even more sold than Together. Love, Love, Love the CD I have to play it every day. The surprise song for me is Not While I’m Around really hope they sing this in the concerts, but I love them all. Also can’t wait to hear possibly a White Xmas/ Last Xmas as the end of the tour is so near Xmas. I will be at Brighton, a meet and greet in Birmingham and lastly at the O2. In total at the end of the year I would have seen Michael and Alfie 10 times. I wonder if I can beat that next year, I do hope so. ❤❤❤ xxx
